- Choose one of the phrases from "Popular Mechanics" listed below and write a short paragraph [or add on to the response you wrote above to discuss the three literary terms] that could include this phrase.
- Follow the guidelines on the handout above and in the video.
- Submit your entry to the thread provided.
The best entries will include 1) the integration of words and phrases smoothly into your sentence (see the handout I provided), and 2) the correctly formatted in-text citation. [If you find better words or phrases, please use them.]
You'll notice that I am not providing you with entire sentences from the story. You see, the best quotes, and the ones most easily incorporated, are the words and phrases that are most relevant to your point, not the entire sentence. Carve away what you do not need. Use the ellipsis mark to show where you have left out words, and use brackets to show where you have added words. [If you don't remember these tools from ENGL 1101, do a quick Google search for those terms.] Oh, and by the way, papers that earn better grades typically incorporate words and phrases of the length I've given you. Quoting entire sentences is usually distracting.
Suggested phrases (but you could use others if they are relevant to your point):
"the weather turned"
"snow was melting"
"dirty water"
"red-faced and screaming"
"fisted fingers"
"in the near-dark"
MLA style writing, use in-text citation, at least two paragrahs
