Mitigation

Mitigation is one of the four phases of emergency management and it is an action taken to reduce or eliminate the risk of hazards to people, animals, and property. This week, I need you to take time to discuss the following and provide feedback to 2 students post and write a minimum of one full paragraph to explain each question 300 words or more.

1. What is mitigation?

2.  What are the goals and objectives of mitigation?

3. Discuss the 6 tools of mitigation - remember to discuss each in at least one paragraph

4. What is the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)?

5. What is the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program (PDM)?

Remember to discuss each point and not just the definition.

Natural and Technological Hazards and Risk Options Menu        

This week we learn the different types of natural and technological hazards and a little bit about terrorism. You will also learn about risk assessment and the technology we use. YOU MUST ANSWER NO 1 AND 2 THEN CHOOSE ANY OTHER THREE OF THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS and let's discuss these hazards. Make sure you have a minimum of one paragraph per question that translates to one for each hazard etc. You must also comment on another student's post to get full credit. 1. The book discusses 15 natural hazards, write what you now know about 5 of these hazards in one paragraph each.

2. The book also discusses 4 technological hazards, discuss 2 in a 2 full paragraphs

3. How did the book describe terrorism?

What are considered the early foundational legal steps for the development of DHS, originating from the Office of the Presidency?

Analyze the legal and constitutional concerns that some parties have regarding the USA Patriot Act and the USA Freedom Act.  Be specific.

Think about the original construction of the DHS. Should it have been done differently?  What alternative design should have been considered?

Discuss the sense and sensibility of the various reorganizations of the DHS. What are the positive and negative aspects of the current incarnation considering previous structures?
