Improving Your Speech Delivery Project

This assignment includes two parts. Be sure to pay close attention to
the directions in each part as they build upon each other.

Part 1

Write and record a two-minute speech on any topic that is important to
you. Present your speech to an audience of one or more persons. You
may record the video and present the recorded version to the audience,
or you may present the speech in person and record it for submission
for this assignment. To record and upload the video of the speech to
YouTube, use the instructions found here. The instructions explain how
to obtain a link to your video on YouTube. Provide the link to the
video in your reflection statement in Part 2 of this assignment. Also,
include a transcript of your speech at the end of the reflection
statement in Part 2 of this assignment.

Have your audience use the following evaluation questions to evaluate
your delivery, and personally answer all the same questions for your
self-evaluation.

Did I use an extemporaneous delivery style?
Did I use appropriate notes but not read or memorize my speech?
Did I establish eye contact with my audience before I began my speech?
Did I maintain eye contact during my speech?
Did I use gestures in a natural way?
Did I have an appropriate posture?
Did I have an appropriate facial expression?
Did I vary my facial expression?
Did I speak loud enough to be heard clearly?
Did I speak with vocal variety?

In the reflection statement, include a link to your YouTube video.

Attend a public meeting, such as your local school board, city
council, or campus council, or reflect upon a meeting you have
attended in the past. Using the principles and skills discussed in
this chapter, evaluate the meeting using the five principles of
leadership. Were group members self-aware and aware of comments and
actions of others? How effectively did group members use verbal
messages to make their points and organize their ideas? Did nonverbal
messages provide supportive and positive reinforcement of others'
comments? How effectively did group members listen and respond to
messages? What evidence did you find that group members appropriately
adapted their message to others during the course of their
conversations?

Develop an agenda for an upcoming meeting. Develop a meeting goal
or goals, and identify the sequence of agenda items. After you have
written your agenda, write a brief explanation of why you structured
your agenda as you did.

Your response must be at least 400 words in length.

Of the roles listed on pages 117–118 in the textbook, which role or
roles do you typically assume in groups, teams, and meetings? Identify
two tasks and two social roles you usually do not assume. Why do you
not assume these roles? Be sure to cite your definitions of your tasks
and roles using at least your textbook as a source.
Your response must be at least 400 words in length.

Create a two-sided, tri-fold brochure or pamphlet outlining guidelines
for college students on how to have a successful interview. Microsoft
Word offers a variety of brochure templates that you can use as a
starting point. Use at least two references. You may use your textbook
as one of the sources. All sources and their use must have
accompanying APA citations. Be sure to include the content listed
below in your brochure.

Differentiate the three types of interviews: information-gathering,
job, and appraisal.
Discuss the interviewer and the interviewee’s roles during the
opening, body, and closing portion of an interview.

Create a PowerPoint presentation outlining guidelines for college
students on how to have a successful interview. The presentation must
be at least eight slides in length and use at least two references.
You may include your textbook as one of the references. Be sure to
cite your sources in a reference slide and use proper APA style. All
sources and their use must have accompanying APA citations. Be sure to
include the content listed below in your presentation.

After learning there is a conflict within your team, you have
decided to do a mini-training lunch session to provide conflict
management resources. Create a training guideline covering the main
points for managing conflict at work using pages 66–71 of your
textbook.

71 of your textbook. Describe your results and how your boss's level
of ethical leadership influences your behaviors and feelings at work.
Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

Your team has been assigned the task of sharing a model to help
understand conflict styles. As team leader, describe the Kilmann
Thomas's Managerial Grid model to your team.
Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

Your manager has requested you to assist with training on work
relationships. Describe the four types of work relationships and a
real-life scenario to illustrate each type of relationship.
Your response must be at least 200 words in length.
